During his time on death row, Ted Bundy mostly kept to himself. The stress he felt on the outside world from having to maintain his image began to alleviate once incarcerated. More than likely due to lack of remorse, it seems as though Ted Bundy shrugged off the reason he was behind bars: It’s just done! It’s back there in the mists,” he told one interviewer. “I say ‘mists’ because I don’t think anyone actually touches the past the way they can touch the present or future.”
For a period of time, he became a vegetarian. Florida State Prison does not cater to individual requests, thus Ted Bundy changed his religious affiliation to Hindu, giving him the legal right to be served a vegetarian diet. He also often spoke of his obsession with socks and desire to own a new pair for each day: “Socks are such a serious part of my life. They’re so very important to me.
I’ve got a sock fetish. No question about it. I must have six or seven pairs right here with me in my cell.”
Before being apprehended, Ted Bundy had been an avid marijuana smoker: “I’m strictly a marijuana man. All I do is… I love to smoke refer,” he said to Hugh Aynesworth. This habit followed Bundy to death row and Carol Boone was more than happy to accommodate by smuggling marijuana to Bundy. He was said to ”drift on a cloud of smuggled marijuana and hashish. All in all, with his dope and his socks and his mysticism, Bundy was a mellow prisoner.”
